12 Kolkata: State will reallocate funds as compensation to students who didn't receive money under Taruner Swapna Scheme for purchasing tablets, which was transferred to accounts of non-beneficiaries.
As many as 92 students from six schools in East Midnapore and East Burdwan didn't receive their allocated Rs 10,000 in Oct. A police probe, which started after a complaint by state school education department, and an FIR by the district inspector of schools, found that the Rs 6.4 lakh allocated for 64 HS students in East Midnapore and Rs 2.8 lakh allocated for 28 students of two schools in East Burdwan, got transferred to some non-beneficiary accounts.
Sources said the state would reallocate funds for these students shortly. One official stated, "Most of the non-beneficiary accounts have been already detected, and state police are investigating the matter. The recovery process includes legal matters, so the students will receive the funds as compensation shortly." The state finance department is also looking into the matter and has sought a report from the districts.
State govt is trying to determine whether the transfer of funds to non-beneficiaries was an error, a technical glitch or a case of hacking.
