12 Kolkata: The three-judge bench led by Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud will hear the RG Kar rape-murder case on Thursday. The CBI is going to submit a status report.
The hearing at the Supreme Court, which was scheduled to be heard at 3 pm on Wednesday, was once again postponed. CJI Chandrachud and justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra were initially supposed to hear the matter on Tuesday.
During the end of the hearings on Wednesday, CJI said that the matter will be taken up at either 10:30 am or 2 pm. Emphasising the need for an update on the facts before the continuation of the proceedings, he said, "We will see the status report tomorrow."
Advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for the state, asked for the bench to reschedule the hearing for next week. But advocate Phiroze Edulji interjected, stressing that there is a possibility of expanding the charges to include a larger conspiracy. Such developments could lead to a re-trial. The trial, he argued, is supposed to start from Nov 11, and the case needs to be heard by the SC before that.
