• Gardener electrocuted at Rajarhat nursery

  • Kolkata: A young gardener, Subho Sardar from Bhangar, died of electric shock on Thursday at Tara Ma nursery in Rajarhat, where he reportedly touched an electrical fencing wire while watering plants.

    Following a complaint from Subho's family, police filed a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder against the nursery owners and arrested two for negligence. An FIR was also filed against other employees. "The nursery is fenced with high-voltage wires to prevent theft. We are checking whether the victim had been briefed about it or not," said a Bidhannagar City Police officer.

    Subho was at the nursery with four other staff, who took him to Rekjoani Hospital, where he was declared dead. Sardar's father, Dilip, claimed at the hospital, while he called his family, the nursery workers snatched the phone away and fled. —Tamaghna Banerjee
