Haldia: A special POCSO court in Haldia on Friday jailed a man for life for luring a girl by promising to marry her and selling her to a Delhi brothel. The minor was rescued by police, and six persons, including the prime accused, were arrested. Of the rest, one was sentenced to 20 years in prison, while the others were imprisoned for 12 years. The minor was given a compensation of Rs 3 lakh. Two other accused are on the run.
In 2017, Sahajamal Molla from South 24 Parganas' Joynagar enticed the 16-year-old girl Haldia on social media. On Oct 25 of that year, Molla eloped with the girl to Delhi where he sold her off.
Govt lawyer Debranjan Banerjee said, "Sahajamal Molla alias Rakesh, was sentenced to life imprisonment while Shalu Singh received a 20-year sentence. Four accused, Praveen Kumar (alias Rinku), Manisha, Mary, and Sehenwaj Beg (alias Indu), were sentenced to 12 years in prison." He added, "Mary's son Rajkishore and Radha are on the run."
