  • 123 Kolkata: Following a complaint filed at the Ultadanga police station in city, two kingpins of an online loan app fraud gang that had cheated people across the country were arrested in Nasik. They duped people on the pretext of share trading. The fraudsters changed their locations and mobile numbers every month, and multiple FIRs were lodged against them across the country.

    According to police sources, a resident of Ultadanga police station area lost Rs 19 lakh earlier this year after being lured to make bogus investments by promises of huge returns on shares. When he couldn't retrieve his money despite repeated attempts, he realised he had fallen prey to a scam and filed a complaint.

    Police found that fake websites of two share trading advisory companies had been created to deceive investors. These websites displayed fabricated information about company shares, market conditions, and investment opportunities. The victims received misleading advice about profitable investments.

    The probe revealed that the mastermind, Kamlesh, and his accomplice Uday operated the scam using multiple IP addresses. Mobile phone tracking eventually led investigators to trace the operation to another state.Kolkata Police initiated proceedings to take the duo into their custody.
