12 Nandakumar: Two people were arrested on Saturday for allegedly assaulting women artists when they refused to dance in skimpy outfits during a cultural programme at a club in Nandakumar, East Midnapore.
Locals said the club had hired some artists for a dance performance on Friday night. The female performers claimed they had agreed to a two-hour event but were forced to stay for nearly five hours. They said some club members pressured them to perform obscene dances. When they refused, they were verbally abused and assaulted, they said. Their mobile phones were also broken.
However, the organisers claimed that the allegations were false, and members of the dance group had attacked a club member, who was taken to a hospital. East Midnapore SP Soumyadeep Bhattacharya said, "A case has been filed. Two individuals have been arrested, and the roles of others are being examined. An investigation is underway."
