  • 123 Kolkata: A cache of sophisticated weapons was found near Sealdah in central Kolkata late on Saturday evening. In a raid by Kolkata Police Special Task Force and its detective department, five firearms and 90 rounds of ammunition were seized till reports last came in. Raids were still on, said Lalbazar sources. One person was detained in this regard and identified as Mohammad Ismail.

    According to police, the location of the weapons cache near Baithakkhana Road was obtained through a confidential source, leading to the operation. The detained suspect is a resident of the Rajabazar area. Initially, investigators suspect that he is involved in the arms trade. However, his possible terror connections are being investigated.

    Police have indicated that the purpose and intended recipients of the stored weapons are under investigation. Additionally, authorities are examining whether others are involved in the arms trade. The arrested individual is being interrogated to determine if there are other weapon caches in the city.
