  • Junior doctors protesting the August 9 rape and murder of a trainee woman doctor at RG Kar hospital in Kolkata will hold a series of programmes on Saturday.

While the West Bengal Junior Doctors Front (WBJDF) will hold a civic march from College Square to Dharmatala, the West Bengal Junior Doctors Association has called for a mass convention on this day.

Additionally, Abhaya Manch (with representatives from various medical colleges, civil society, and the general public) and Joint Platform of Doctors will hold a ‘People’s Charge Sheet’ programme at the Rani Rasmani Avenue on Saturday. They will be joined by the junior doctors after the procession.

One of the protesting doctors, Kinjal Nanda, in a Facebook Live said, “Even after the 90th day, … the victim did not get justice. The investigation process of the country’s highest investigating agency leaves enough room for questions. On the other hand, the college is trying to perpetuate its politics of fear again.”

Earlier this week, 87-days after the 31-year-old junior doctor was raped and killed a special CBI court in Sealdah on Monday framed charges against sole accused Sanjay Roy.

The CBI, meanwhile, submitted the status report on Thursday after delaying the hearing in the Supreme Court for two consecutive days. The SC ordered the investigation to continue.
