  • Three coaches of the Secunderabad-Shalimar Superfast Express derailed near Howrah station, about 40 km from Kolkata, on Saturday morning. No casualties or major injuries have been reported so far, South Eastern Railway said in a statement.

    The weekly special train that was proceeding to Secunderabad derailed at Nalpur.

    “One Parcel van and two coaches of 22850 Secunderabad-Shalimar Weekly Express got derailed while passing Nalpur station of Kharagpur Division at 5.31 hrs today, 09.11.2024,” the Railways said.

    Officials said that accident relief trains and medical relief trains from Santragachi and Kharagpur have reached the derailment spot. “Buses have been arranged to carry the stranded passengers to their destinations. Restoration process is in progress,” the South Eastern Railway stated.

    The helpdesk numbers of Shalimar (6295531471), Santragachi (9831243655), Kharagpur (63764 – Railway), and Howrah (7595074714) stations are operational.

    Following the accident, many trains, including long-distance ones, were cancelled in the Kharagpur division.

    On June 17, 11 people were killed and nearly 60 others were injured after Sealdah-Agartala Kanchanjunga Express collided with a goods train near Rangapani railway station in North Bengal.
