Kolkata: The University of Calcutta has decided to call the principals of colleges that had reported that answer scripts of Bengali first-semester exams were missing to tell them how to deal with the matter and explain the options available to the affected students. Altogether, 120 answer scripts cannot be traced.
A CU official said since the matter was sensitive, the university had decided to counsel the principals instead of sending a letter to them. "Principals will be explained the matter, including options that they can offer to students and the procedure to be followed. A formal letter will be handed over after the interaction to prevent any confusion," an official said.
The university has prepared an option form that will be distributed to principals on the day they will be counselled. The university has decided to provide two options to some students and three to others, depending on the type of loss.
The 65 students whose scripts were checked and scores were uploaded before the scripts went missing would get three options, while the rest from two colleges, whose scripts were not evaluated, will get two options. Of these, 54 scripts were burnt in a fire at an examiner's home.
Students have to fill the option form and return it to the college, which will forward them to the university.
Three examiners of three colleges under CU — two from the city and one from South 24 Parganas — have confessed to losing answer scripts, leading to a delay in the first-semester MA Bengali results. The exams were held in April. The university started a probe, and the examiners are under scanner.
Principals of the affected colleges are waiting for a directive from the university. A college principal said, "We have been waiting to know if our students are among the affected ones. We tried to get information from other colleges and the university but nothing has been revealed. "
