  • The death of a Class 12 girl student, whose mutilated body was found near the railway tracks in Bandel Mukhi on Friday night, has thrown up more questions than answers with the mother of the 18-year-old alleging foul play.

The mother of the student has told the Government Railway Police (GRP) that her daughter had received a threat call just before she disappeared on Friday evening.

“My daughter used to go 2-3 days a week to study English with a private tutor in Kalna. I dropped her off at the tutor’s place at 5 pm Friday. I was waiting in a nearby house for her class to get over and take her home back. But she left the teacher’s house alone at 6:50 pm without telling me anything,” the mother said. According to the mother, the daughter told her — “They won’t let me live, Maa (mother),” she told the GRP.

The girl’s cousin also echoed the family’s suspicion of foul play, asserting that she was a “strong-willed” person who would not have taken her own life.

The GRP has initiated an investigation into the case and is examining the CCTV footage from the station area. While the cause of death remains undetermined pending the autopsy report, the police are exploring all possibilities, including the potential involvement of “external factors behind her death.

Meanwhile, TMC minister Swapan Debnath and Kalna MLA Debprasad Bagh assured the family of their support. The minister emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into the incident.
