  • The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported that an “unusual circulation pattern” in the Bay of Bengal has created “ideal conditions” for strong winds to enter the state, but is yet to announce that winter is coming.

This meteorological phenomenon, which began in mid-November, has led to a slight decrease in nighttime temperatures, per the IMD.

Temperatures may drop in the state over the weekend. The Alipore Meteorological Department said the night temperature may drop by two to three degrees in the Himalayan region in the north and Gangetic Bengal in the south. However, this is not likely to happen before Friday.

According to the Alipore forecast, dry weather will prevail in all the districts of southern West Bengal for the next few days, with no chance of rain. For at least three days, night temperatures will see no change, the weather office added. After that, they may drop by two or three degrees.

In northern West Bengal, Darjeeling and Kalimpong may receive scattered light rain from Monday to Wednesday. The remaining districts are expected to experience dry weather.

There will be no change in night temperature for the next three days in hilly areas. However, the IMD said that the night temperature may drop by two to three degrees in northern West Bengal over the next two days.

According to the air office, there is no possibility of any depression over the Bay of Bengal near West Bengal at present. Low pressure is over the Southwest Bay of Bengal. Its influence is also likely to bring rain over the coasts of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.

Kolkata’s minimum temperature on Monday was 22.8 degrees Celsius, 1.6 degrees above normal. The city recorded a maximum temperature of 31.2 degrees Celsius on Sunday, 0.2 degrees above normal. The sky will be mostly clear in Kolkata throughout the day on Monday
