12 Kolkata: Calcutta High Court on Monday dismissed a PIL against TMC's Sitai bypoll candidate Sangita Roy, which alleged that she had suppressed information in her election affidavit. The PIL claimed Roy did not belong to the Scheduled Caste.
A division bench of Chief Justice TS Sivagnanam and Justice Hiranmay Bhattacharyya, however, refused to intervene in an ongoing poll process.
The opposition raised objections after Roy submitted her papers, claiming that her caste certificate was incorrect and that she had concealed information in her election affidavit.
Left and Congress approached the commission on this but no action was taken. Subsequently, a case was filed in the HC.
