Kolkata: The EC on Tuesday published the integrated draft electoral roll, showing there are 7.4 crore voters in Bengal, of which 3.7 crore are males and 3.6 crore are females. This excludes the six assemblies where bypolls will be held on Wednesday. However, the number of transgender voters is 1,847, marking an increase of 10 transgender voters.
For the past couple of years, Bengal has had a high recorded number of female voters. Data released by the EC in Jan 2024 indicated Bengal had 968 female voters per 1,000 male voters, while in 2019, there were 949 female voters for every 1,000 male voters. In the 2024 LS polls, Bengal recorded a 79.2% turnout, with women voters at 80.1% and male voters at 78.4%. This is close to the top women voter turnout figures of Assam with 81.7% and Andhra Pradesh with 80.3%. During the LS polls, north Kolkata had the least turnout in Bengal with 63.5%, followed by south Kolkata with 66.9%.
An EC official said they included 6.2 lakh voters' names in the pre-revision phase, deleted 4.5 lakh names, and made corrections to 11.2 lakh names. He said 100% of Bengal voters have EPIC. The final roll is expected to be published on Jan 6, 2025.
