Kolkata: Six people were arrested on Wednesday for allegedly misappropriating money released by state govt to buy tablets. While Kolkata Police arrested two in North Dinajpur's Chopra — Krishnapada Barman, 38, and Sariful Islam — East Burdwan police and Baishnabnagar PS arrested four people in Malda — Rocky Sk (32), Sraban Sarkar (24), Jamal Hossain (30) and Pintu Sk (25).

"We are ascertaining whether there are connections between the accused and whether they were involved in cyber crimes like Aadhaar Enabled Payment System fraud. So far no links have been established," said a police officer.
On Tuesday, there were allegations that money for buying tablets did not reach the accounts of 31 students of a school in Sarsuna. Police sources said one of the arrested was a farmer and the fraud was committed through a cyber cafe. "During the investigation, the names of Krishnapada and Shariful surfaced. After identifying the accused, the investigators contacted the Islampur police station and the two were arrested. The arrested seem to be mule account holders who received Rs 300 for every Rs 1,000 received in the account," said a senior police officer.
The arrests were made based on the interrogation of Hashem Ali, apprehended earlier from Baishnabnagar. One of the persons arrested in Malda is a computer teacher. "Rocky Sk is a contractual computer teacher at Bhagabanpur KBS School in Malda. He is accused of providing login credentials of accounts of multiple schools," said an officer at Bhawani Bhawan.
