Calcutta HC seeks report against New Town IC for defying state counsel

123 Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court on Thursday directed the deputy commissioner of police to submit a report by Dec 12 on what steps were taken against the inspector in-charge of the New Town police station for defying the instructions of the state counsel. The court has questioned the inspector's action while filing the report in a threat case that raised allegations against a developer.
Justice Tirthankar Ghosh held that the concrened police officer did not intend to deal with the allegation of threat against the developer. Justice Ghosh observed: "The report reflects that the police officer, even after being pursued by the state counsel, has made reference to an incident in 2024 when the accusation is about an incident in 2021."
Justice Ghosh also directed a strict police vigil in the area so that there was no anxiety in the mind of the petitioner of any impending threat from the accused respondents at the behest of the police officer.
