123 Kolkata: The Justice U U Lalit Committee is expected to release the advertisement for West Bengal University of Health Sciences and Rabindra Bharati University afresh on Friday as it was unable to find any eligible candidates for the VCs at the two varsities yet.
The interviews for the appointment of permanent VCs to 36 state universities were conducted in two phases: the first between Oct 18 and 28, and the second between Nov 6 and 10.
Among the 36 state universities, the Supreme Court-appointed search committee was unable to find any suitable candidates from the shortlist for Rabindra Bharati University and West Bengal University of Health Sciences. Candidates for VCs to these universities were interviewed in the first phase but all of them were found to be ineligible.
A higher education dept official said the advertisement will be published by the department and the same process will be followed as it was in July when the first advertisement was published. The whole process may be over before the next hearing scheduled on Dec 9.
The SC-appointed panel for each university, headed by former CJ Lalit, interviewed shortlisted candidates to appoint permanent VCs in 36 state-run universities. Altogether, 500 were shortlisted from 2,500-odd applications that the five-member panel received. In first phase, 33 permanent VCs' names were finalised after interviews between Oct 18 and 28. The second phase held from Nov 6 ended on Sunday.
