Kolkata: The Friday night attack on councillor Sushanta Ghosh shook him and his family for a while. He thought of leaving politics, but words of encouragement and support from party seniors made him reconsider his decision as he decided to stick to politics and "continue his fight against miscreants."
"I have always been a fighter. I took a bullet for my leader when I was young, and I still bear that spirit. I was not scared when the youth trained a gun at me. I kicked him while I was seated on a chair, which left him stunned, and he turned back to flee. But the incident shook my family, particularly my daughter studying in Delhi. She requested me to quit politics. I started considering her request but then the politician within me couldn't allow me to leave working for people. I am not quitting and will continue my fight against miscreants," Ghosh said.
The state has also increased his security. He had two cops on guard till Friday, and from Saturday, two more were added. Ghosh said that on Friday, one of the guards was on leave, and he asked the other to go home around 8 pm. He was interacting with two friends outside his home without any guards when the incident happened.
"I have always interacted with friends and locals without any security personnel. My security doesn't matter here. What matters is the security of people that has been compromised. I always considered this area to be extremely safe. But this incident has left me concerned," said Ghosh. On Saturday, he was seen sitting outside his home and interacting with party workers, media and friends and relatives.
