12 Kolkata: Amrut Distilleries is eyeing a bigger share of the Bengal market and is also introducing a state-specific limited edition single malt for Bengal called the ‘City of Joy Edition', which will be available in Kolkata and its surroundings for a limited period.
Amrut joint MD TG Nikam told TOI that in 2024-25, the company was expecting 50% growth in Bengal. The state would be one of the fastest-growing markets for Amrut, said Nikam, and also claimed that in the Indian Alcobev (Alcoholic Beverages) industry, there has never been an instance of a limited edition being branded after a city. "This has never happened earlier," he added.
According to Nikam, the company sold 10,000 cases in Bengal in 2023-24, and in this fiscal, it hopes to achieve the sales of 15,000 cases. "We are doing well here. As far as ‘City of Joy' is concerned, it will be available for 45-50 days. The blend we used for this edition is also very unique," he added.
Nikam said that Amrut was increasing the capacity of its distilleries. Currently, the company has a capacity of one million litres per month, which will go up to 1.3 million litres by Jan, 2025. The family-owned company has a turnover of Rs 500 crore without duty, while with duty, it has a top line of Rs 1,800 crore. Nikam pointed out that the company is now focusing on premiumisation, which in turn gives better margins. "We want to be in the innovative space," he added.
