KOLKATA: Senior officials of the defence ministry, during a two-day visit, interacted with key stakeholders in Kolkata, including officials of Eastern Command and the state govt, to review and enhance welfare measures for ex-servicemen in West Bengal.
Niten Chandra, the Secretary of the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare (DESW), Ministry of Defence, along with Brigadier DS Basera, Secretary of Kendriya Sainik Board (KSB), came to the city on Sunday.
They met with Lieutenant General RC Tiwari, the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Eastern Command; Manoj Pant, Chief Secretary of West Bengal; and the state head of Common Service Centre (CSC). They were also joined by Brigadier Rajeev Kapur, additional director general, Directorate Resettlement Zone (DRZ) East, and representatives of ex-servicemen (ESMs).
“The discussions focused on streamlining welfare schemes, enhancing digital services for ESMs, and improving access to benefits through CSCs. The collaborative engagement underscored the commitment of both the Ministry of Defence and the state govt in addressing the needs of the ex-servicemen community,” a defence spokesperson shared in a statement.
Officials said the visit concluded on a positive note, with all stakeholders expressing optimism for the resettlement of ESM and further strengthening of welfare measures for ex-servicemen in West Bengal.
