• Cops foil RG Kar accused’s attempt to speak outside court

  • 123 Kolkata: Policemen on Monday banged on the prison van and honked repeatedly to foil any attempt by Sanjay Roy, the prime accused in the rape and murder of the RG Kar doctor, to speak to those waiting outside the court. Roy had earlier tried to communicate with the media from inside the prison van.

Earlier last week, Roy made certain remarks against former Kolkata Police commissioner Vineet Goyal and claimed he was innocent when he was being taken out of the prison van. The security cover on the court premises was enhanced thereafter.

On Monday, the fifth day of his trial, when the van reached the court with Roy, he tried to say something to the reporters again. However, police started banging on the prison van and honked.

"I don't understand why the police need to stop him from speaking out. Even if they wanted to stop him, the strategy seemed very crude." Trinamool Congress's former Rajya Sabha MP Kunal Ghosh said.

"Roy is the only accused in the rape and murder so far, and his statement outside the courtroom doesn't have any legal implication. He knows the crime he has committed can lead to death. He will try to obfuscate the probe. The law will take its own course," Ghosh said.
