12 Kolkata: Bus owners on Wednesday expressed their concern about the new proposed SOP and dismissal of the commission system. After learning about this new code of conduct, several transport organisation leaders contacted the transport minister Snehashish Chakraborty to express their concerns. The bus owners claimed that if the govt takes such a strict stance, they will be compelled to exit the business.
On Monday, the City Suburban Bus Services – a group of bus owners – held a meeting. The organisation's general secretary, Titu Saha, said, "After learning about the new code of conduct, private transport workers have become flustered. In addition to providing services to the general public, we pay taxes to the govt. Now the govt is saying that we have to give an undertaking to drive buses. In that undertaking, it must be stated that if there is a fatal accident, murder charges will be filed against the bus owner, driver, and conductor. Where are such regulations for app bikes or autos? We have informed the transport minister of our fears. "
Upon learning the concerns, Chakraborty assured "to look into thematter".
