  • Kolkata: Bengal BJP president Sukanta Majumdar was arrested while on the way to Murshidabad's Beldanga on Wednesday and later released on bail.

The junior Union minister was stopped near Jalangi Bridge in Krishnanagar, where police requested him not to proceed further. Majumdar had a heated exchange with the cops and then sat on a dharna, along with BJP netas like Samik Bhattacharya. He was then arrested and taken to Kotwali police station in a prison van, before being released on bail.

"There are no prohibitory orders here. Despite that, they arrested us for breaking prohibitory orders. They detained at least 20 more party workers and netas. We will observe protests across Bengal now," Majumdar said.

BJP workers later held agitations across Dhubulia and Ranaghat.
