Kolkata: The HC directed NEET authorities to consider reassessing functional competency of a candidate who appeared for NEET-UG 2024 within Nov 24 and who sought eligibility under PWD category. The counselling is scheduled to take place on Nov 25.
The candidate, suffering from hereditary neuropathy with liability to pressure palsy (HNLPP) was declared ineligible for PWD reservation by the designated disability NEET screening centre, IPGMER, Kolkata, despite certificates from reputable institutions confirming his disability to be greater than 40%. The screening centre assessed it to be 31%.
According to Unique Disability ID issued to the candidate at RG Kar Hospital, the disability percentage was found to be 55%. The candidate also claimed that it was 63% according to aNIMHANS certificate.
"It has also been made clear by the Hon'ble Supreme Court that if a person with disability wanted to have himself re-assessed so as to verify whether the disability fell within the prescribed parameters for reservation, he might choose to do so by updating the UDID card," Justice Jay Sengupta noted.
