Kolkata: A class VII student of a reputable English-medium school in Barrackpore is at risk of losing vision in his left eye after being severely injured during a computer class. The 12-year-old boy suffered the injury when his teacher, Sushomoy Banerjee, allegedly hit him hard on the face with a bundle of papers and a pen.
Following the incident, the student's family lodged an FIR at Jagaddal police station, leading to the arrest of the teacher on Thursday. The boy's condition raised serious concerns, with doctors fearing permanent damage to his vision even after the boy underwent an eye surgery in Bengaluru.
According to local sources, the incident took place on Monday while the boy went to attend a computer class at a private computer training centre near Shyamnagar railway station. " The accused teacher threw a bundle of papers and a pen at my nephew's face in a fit of rage while the little boy made a mistake during the class. He sustained severe injuries to his left eye," said Nibedita Modak, the boy's aunt.
"The teacher was arrested and produced in court," a senior police officer said.
