  • Kolkata: A 22-year-old college student, who was an aspiring model and wanted to pursue a career as a social media influencer, was found dead at her residence in Bikramgarh on Thursday morning. Cops said prima facie, it appears she died by suicide but they are awaiting the final post-mortem report to ascertain the exact cause of death. Cops have initiated inquest proceedings.

Cops said Sulagna Gope was found hanging from the ceiling around 8 am. Cops said no suicide note was recovered. Her family — comprising her parents and elder sister — told cops they took her to MR Bangur Hospital where she was declared dead.

The victim's father — a retired govt employee — told cops that she was passionate about uploading videos on YouTube and other social media sites. However, of late, she was reportedly unhappy about not getting "meaningful projects" that were economically viable for her. Her follower reach, too, was not picking up.

"We are studying her phone for leads. We will ascertain her relationships and her performance, of late, in academics. The family is still in shock and we are hoping to talk to them in detail in a day or two. The family has said they don't suspect foul play," an officer said.

Those close to the victim said she had reduced posting videos on social media in the past few weeks.
