Kolkata: Six days after a murder attempt on councillor Sushanta Ghosh in Kasba, another Trinamool Congress councillor on Thursday claimed she witnessed suspicious movement inside her Ballygunge Place residence.
A group of miscreants was allegedly spotted inside the premises of Sudarshana Mukhopadhyay, the councillor of Ward 68, on Thursday afternoon. However, they could not break in.
"A couple of men had been moving around in my building and they were clearly doing a recce of my flat. My associates spotted them and raised an alarm. I suspect they were armed. I am scared and have filed a complaint at the Garihat police station. I have also informed my party," Mukherjee told TOI.
The Gariahat police is investigating the incident and has decided to scan CCTV footage for leads.
This is not the first time there was a break-in attempt at Mukhopadhyay's residence. Last year, there was a burglary at her home. They had entered the house by opening the bathroom window, ransacked the flat and stole gold jewellery, cash and other items. They had even stole the taps from the bathroom and kitchen, thereby flooding the entire house. Police carried out some quick arrests at that time and made crucial recoveries. "We are ascertaining if the same gang was involved in Thursday's attempts," an officer said.
