123 Kolkata: The CFSL expert from Kolkata, who carried out the DNA test of the samples in connection with the R G Kar rape and murder case, deposed before the court for nearly four hours. She was also cross-examined on Thursday.
The prime accused in the rape and murder of the 31-year-old doctor, Sanjay Roy, was represented by his lawyer, Sourav Bandyopadhyay, who cross-examined the expert on Thursday.
Roy earlier pleaded not guilty and claimed that he was being framed in the case. Roy's lawyer previously questioned the process of DNA sampling and the accuracy of test results. In its charge sheet, the CBI stated that the nipple swab preserved during the autopsy was also found to be that of Roy. Short hair collected from the scene of the crime also belonged to Roy.
Later, the multi-institutional medical board formed by the Centre presented an interim report before the CBI. The report corroborated that the swab taken from the area around both nipples showed the presence of saliva belonging to Roy. This was further confirmed by the DNA sampling report.
Other reports also corroborated that human semen was present on the urethral swab and it belonged to prime accused Roy.
Earlier, the CBI raised doubts about the process of preservation of DNA samples. They believed that the samples might get contaminated if they were not preserved at 4 degrees Celsius.
