12 Kolkata: Trinamool Congress raised questions about the potential involvement of the BJP-led administration and demanded a statement from PM Narendra Modi following US authorities' charges against Gautam Adani in a bribery and fraud case.
TMC Rajya Sabha MP Saket Gokhale posted on X: "How did the ED not detect 250 million dollars being paid in bribes allegedly to a ‘govt official' in India by the Adani Group? Modi claims demonetisation ended all black money in cash. And the govt of India heavily monitors the banking system (and average people have to do KYC multiple times). The bigger question, therefore, is: Was this ‘govt official' merely a single point of contact? How much of the 250 million dollars bribe also went to Modi, BJP, ED officials, and others? What is their ‘cut' out of this?"
TMC state general secretary Kunal Ghosh said there had been reports earlier about irregularities in the group and such allegations not only shamed the company but disgraced the entire nation. "The businessman is known for his proximity to PM Narendra Modi. Modi ji should come out with a statement on this issue," Ghosh told reporters.
"This is Modi and BJP's legacy — to run the biggest global kleptocracy. Selling out India's resources and infrastructure to one corrupt crony at taxpayer and poor's expense. FBI, DOJ, and US SEC investigation indicted not only Adani but India's government, regulators, and rotten system," Trinamool MP Mahua Moitra posted on X.
In another post, she wrote: "Silence from both Bhakts and Adani. Waiting for Modiji to dial Donald Trump to help sort it out?"
