  • Kolkata: The state assembly may table a resolution seeking resumption of direct flights between London and Kolkata, minister Chandrima Bhattacharya said on Friday. The last Air India flight from Kolkata to London took off on March 20, 2022. It was the only direct connection the city had with Europe.

"The international status of NSCBI Airport is in question. We receive recognition from many parts of the world, but the PM is not considering the potential increase in tourism that could come with the resumption of direct flight lnks with the West. So, we are bringing a resolution stating that if there are direct flights from Europe, USA and UK, it will be a true international validation for our airport. We will appeal before the civil aviation ministry to make this happen," Bhattacharya said.
