  • 123 Kolkata: Several female students from Behala have approached police after being added to unknown WhatsApp groups and receiving vulgar messages from it. A parent, who tried calling the administrator of one the groups, was reportedly abused and threatened.

"Last week, my daughter and several other girls were added to a WhatsApp group, and vulgar messages started flooding their phones. This incident has alarmed us and we are worried about our daughters' safety. A complaint has been lodged at the Parnasree PS," said a girl's father.

According to the parents, at the beginning of the week, representatives from a computer training centre came to promote their organisation and had taken contact numbers from multiple students. "Shortly, the girls were added to a WhatsApp group. We suspect it's the source of this harassment,"said a parent.

But the computer centre authorities claimed that none of their staff members was involved in this. They said on learning about the incident, they reported their employees' activities to police.
