  • Kolkata: In a bid to maintain transparency for conducting all medical theory examinations, the West Bengal University of Health Sciences (WBUHS) sent standard operating procedures (SOPs) to state-run medical colleges on Saturday.

    The implementation will start with the MS/MD/diploma examinations slated in Dec. The same will be followed for other medical examinations as well.

    Earlier last month, the WBUHS, the affiliating body of all medical, nursing and paramedical colleges in the state, formed a six-member panel to review the medical examination system in the state.

    Debasis Basu is the chairman of the committee, while the other five members are Indranil Biswas, principal of MCH, Monimoy Banerjee, director of IPGMER and SSKM, Santanu Tripathi, principal of JIS Medical College, Yogiraj Ray, head of infectious disease at SSKM, and Arunima Choudhuri, dean, Burdwan Medical College.

    "The download and printing of question papers will be done in a room under CCTV surveillance," it stated.

    Any examinee caught for adopting unfair means will be dissuaded from writing answer scripts. "The CIC will have to send a report to the university regarding the disciplinary action against the student," an official said.

    Ray said, "The SOP has been issued and examinees will be under scanner during the examination. The SOP has been issued following a talk with CM Mamata Banerjee."
