  • 123 Kolkata: A 32-year-old man, Krishanu Chattopadhyay, attending a birthday party, was allegedly beaten to death by "security guards" while chatting with his friends at the Ichhapur Rifle Factory park in North 24-Parganas on Saturday evening. His two friends were also seriously injured in the attack and are still fighting for their lives at Barrackpore BN Bose Subdivisional Hospital.

    "We have already initiated an unnatural death case. An investigation is underway while we are looking into the matter with all necessary action and legal proceedings. We are also waiting for the autopsy report,"Ganesh Biswas, DC (DD), Barrackpore commissionerate, told TOI.

    The Ichhapur Rifle Factory did not issue any statement in this regard.

    According to local sources, Chattopadhyay, a resident of Ichhapur Anandamath C Block and an employee of a Kolkata-based private firm, had gone to attend a birthday party of his friend's daughter near the Rifle Factory Park on Saturday evening.

    "During the birthday party celebration, after having food, my son was chatting with his friends inside the park. Since the area is restricted, a group of DSC (Defence Security Corps) armed with sticks attacked them all of a sudden. While my son tried to resist the guards, the DSC personnel started beating him up mercilessly. When his friends came to his rescue, they were also beaten up severely," Kajal Chattopadhyay, the victim's father, said.

    Locals said they were all rescued in an unconscious and bloodied condition from the park and taken to the hospital. Krishanu was declared dead on arrival, while the other two are in critical condition.

    Kajal Chattopadhyay also said that as he had worked at the Ichhapur Rifle Factory many people there knew Krishanu.
