12 Kolkata: A fire broke out in the Krishnapalli slum area beside Ultadanga rail line around 5.30 am on Sunday. Around five shanties were completely gutted in the fire. Nobody was injured in the incident.
Locals said the fire spread quickly in the slum due to the presence of items like foam, cotton, and other such items stacked inside the rooms. Six fire tenders were rushed to the spot. It took a few hours to bring the blaze under control. State fire and emergency services minister Sujit Bose, who visited the spot to look into the situation, said that the fire brigade had arrived in time to prevent the fire from spreading further. Bose said that local councillor and MLA would be providing the required assistance to the affected families. Forensic tests will be conducted to determine the exact cause of the fire, and the extent of the damage.
