  • Kolkata: Apeejay Surrendra Park Hotels looks to take its bakery and confectionery brand, Flurys, to cities like Indore, Darjeeling, Gangtok, and Vizag by this financial year and to all metro cities soon after.

Currently, the iconic tearoom-cum-café, synonymous with Park Street since the British era, has 31 outlets outside Kolkata. Though Flurys opened its first outlet outside Kolkata in Mumbai about 11 years ago, the expansion drive gathered momentum after the pandemic. "We have 16 outlets in Mumbai, one each in Delhi and Hyderabad, and two in Bhubaneswar. We have opened two outlets in Siliguri and three in other parts of North Bengal. There are three more outlets in Durgapur. Besides, the Flurys brand has a presence in Serampore and Chandernagore as well," said a company spokesperson.

On Tuesday, Priya Paul, a Padma Shri awardee and chairperson of Apeejay Surrendra Park Hotels, shared her journey as a businesswoman at a session hosted by the Ladies Study Group, the women's wing of the Indian Chamber of Commerce. She said the group will have 50 hotels in the country by 2025.

Flurys was founded at 18 Park Street in 1927 by Mr and Mrs J Flury. In a short time, it became a favourite spot for tea and breakfast for the British and affluent Indians.
