  • Lady Brabourne College has published an advertisement, inviting fresh applications from UG aspirants. KOLKATA: Several colleges in the city said on Tuesday that they were not too sure about reopening their admission portals though the state higher education department on Monday announced that the undergraduate admission process would resume and continue till Nov 30 to fill seats still vacant in certain courses and subjects. Many of the institutes held a meeting on Tuesday to discuss the feasibility of reopening their portals at this point and also, how to go about the process.

Lady Brabourne College has published an advertisement, inviting fresh applications from UG aspirants. "An ad has been placed to inform students about fresh admission. We spoke to the service provider and the admission process will go live from Wednesday afternoon," said principal Siuli Sarkar. "We hope to get fresh students."

But Asutosh College decided not to reopen the portal, while Netaji Nagar Day College and Surendranath College said they would conduct admissions through college websites instead of reopening the admission portals. Surendranath College principal Indranil Kar said, "Reopening the admission portal will cost a lot. So we have decided to take admissions through the college website with the help of a form we designed last time. But we are quite concerned as the newcomers will get less than two months to prepare for the first-semester exams."

Netaji Nagar Day College officials decided to wrap up the whole process by Nov 30.

Asutosh College principal Manas Kabi pointed out that they did not receive any fresh query about admissions. "We are not reopening the admission portal, but we are ready to admit candidates if they are interested. We have vacant seats for certain subjects. We will take in new students based on vacancies and after proper scrutiny," he said.

Some principals said the university registration was already over, and the new students would have to apply again. Moulana Azad College principal Subhasis Dutta said, "Our admission portal will be open from Wednesday till Nov 30. Registrations are already done, and students taking fresh admission may have already done their registration somewhere else. The university must properly notify us what to do about it."
