  • 12 Kolkata: Chennai-based fertiliser company Tropical Agro will invest Rs 50 crore in Bengal as it sets up its factory in Kharagpur to manufacture biological and chemical crop protection products. The plant will become operational next year.

The annual turnover of the company stands at Rs 1,415 crore, with Bengal market contributing about 10% of it, company chairman VK Jhaver told TOI. "The upcoming facility will be spread over four acres of land in Kharagpur. This will optimise our supply chain and reduce logistics costs and delivery time. It is expected to become operational next year, generating 300 jobs," Jhaver said.

The company is also planning to set up a new factory in Gujarat and relocate its existing facility to Cheyyar in Tamil Nadu from Ambattur, he added.
