Judge Shiv Shankar Ghosh of Chinsurah Fast Track Court had convicted them three days ago.

According to the prosecution, a total of nine persons were arrested for the murder of a Toto driver, Vishnu Mal.

One of the accused later turned approver.

Public Prosecutor Bivas Chattopadhyay said: “Seven persons, including Vishal Das, were convicted under IPC section 302 (murder) and 120b (criminal conspiracy). One of the accused, Mantu Ghosh, had helped in disposing of the body. So, he was sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment.”

According to the police case, Vishal Das, a notorious criminal in Chunchura, abducted 23-year-old youth Vishnu Mal from the Rayerber area in October 2020, as the latter was dating a woman who Vishal loved.

After Mal refused to end his relationship with the woman, Vishal Das and his aides killed him and chopped his body into several pieces.
