Kolkata: In an alleged case of road rage on Vivekananda Road in central Kolkata on Wednesday night, a motorist — a trader — allegedly assaulted a cab driver, snatched his vehicle keys and left the vehicle in the middle of the road, obstructing traffic.
The accused, Ayush Gandhi from nearby Jorabagan, also reportedly snatched money from the taxi driver. He was later arrested by Girish Park PS and released on bail.
According to cops, the complainant, taxi driver Shubhankar Majhi, reported that while driving along Vivekananda Road, his taxi brushed past Ayush's car, which the accused himself was driving. Although none of the vehicle was damaged, an argument ensued between the two. Ayush allegedly demanded compensation for the damage to his car, but Shubhankar refused. The argument escalated and Shubhankar alleged that Ayush assaulted him and snatched Rs 10,000 from him. The matter did not end there as Ayush also took the taxi keys and fled the area.
Cops said the taxi was left stranded in the middle of the road. Eventually, the taxi driver filed a complaint of assault and robbery. The police arrived at the scene that night to investigate and shortly after that, Ayush also returned to the spot to assess the situation. He claimed he merely wanted the cabbie to realise his mistake and that he had not planned any robbery. Ayush was, however, detained. The police recovered taxi keys and Rs 4,000 from him before formally arresting him.
