NDITA to reorganize Sec V vendors to free up road side space

Kolkata: The Nabadiganta Industrial Township Authority (NDITA) has identified several streets in Sector V where hawkers currently do business on both sides of the street and plan to free up at least one side by accommodating the hawkers on the other side.
The move will ensure that one side of the road is free of encroachment.
Among the streets that have been identified with vendors doing business on both sides are 2, 15, 19, 20, 23 and 26.
"Small kiosks will be set up on one side where all hawkers on that street will be accommodated," said an NDITA official.
The authorities have also identified five plots of 5-10 cottahs in Sector V for rehabilitating roadside street vendors.
"We could set up food courts here," said an official. Some hawkers may also be shifted to ground floor of the multi-level car parking complex.
Earlier, the NDITA officials cleared some encroachment by vendors opposite Technopolis, and the main thoroughfare of the IT hub was declared a no-vending zone.
