“This case was registered in compliance with the directions of the Calcutta High Court relating to financial irregularities in R G Kar Medical College & Hospital at Kolkata,” the release added.
According to sources, the CBI claimed in the chargesheet that Ghosh along with other named persons ran a “corruption racket” inside the hospital and there is evidence to show “favouritism in calling tenders.”
Ghosh’s alleged role came under scrutiny after the rape and murder of a junior doctor at R G Kar medical college hospital on August 9. Thereafter, allegations of graft were levelled against Ghosh.
In addition to allegations of financial corruption, the CBI is also investigating the rape and murder case. Ghosh is being questioned in connection with both cases as he was the hospital’s administrator at the time of the incidents.
Ghosh and Abhijit Mondol – the then officer in charge of the police station concerned – were arrested in connection with the rape and murder case. The CBI had arrested Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer at the time, for the rape and murder of the junior doctor and later submitted chargesheet in the case, naming him.
