  • 123 Kolkata: The state school education department is set to issue comprehensive guidelines to facilitate the smooth joining of candidates in upper primary schools. This move has come following grievances lodged by applicants with the West Bengal School Service Commission. They allegedly faced difficulties with certain district authorities during their joining process.

State education minister, Bratya Basu, told TOI, "At chief minister Mamata Banerjee's instruction, the School Service Commission has successfully completed the first phase of recruitment process, maintaining transparency. The process was previously delayed due to judicial proceedings. However, a clear directive will be issued by the department soon to make the process seamless."

WBSSC chairperson Sidhhartha Majumdar said, "We have already issued a clarification to make the process smooth, but still some candidates face trouble while joining. The issues will be sorted out soon."

After a long legal battle, the commission completed the first phase of counselling, where over 8,749 candidates were called. Among them, 6,680 were handed recommendation letters for joining, for which they waited for eight years. It will initiate the second phase of counselling in Dec for the rest from the updated merit list for the 2016 State Level Selection Test (SLST) to fill 14,339 posts.
