Kolkata: A civic volunteer, Rinku Saha, was slashed with a knife and a police ambulance was damaged after a team from Bansdroni PS responded to an SOS call from an elderly man at Brahmapur, pleading for help while being beaten up by his son. Cops said they were able to rescue the elderly man and have arrested the son, Rudranarayan Bhattacharya.
"He was arrested for murder in 2012. He was out on bail and had begun assaulting the parents," a neighbour said.
Cops said as the team arrived with an ambulance to rescue the man, the accused charged at the officers with a knife and also beat them. He vandalized the ambulance, too.
"When the civic volunteer, a part of the team, tried to intervene, the accused attacked him. We sent a second team after that, which rescued the elderly man and the injured civic volunteer, and arrested the accused," said an officer.
