123 Kolkata: Cops probing the arrest of Bangladesh Nationalist Party man Selim Mohammed, alias Selim Matabbar, who allegedly entered Bengal illegally and stayed with a fake identity for two years, found that he was a farmer in Madaripur, Bangladesh. Due to his BNP affiliation, he was under the watch of Awami League workers before the polls in that country. An anti-terrorism unit in Bangladesh was also looking for him.
"To escape them, he was hiding in different districts. Before the elections in Bangladesh earlier this year, he fled to the Gede border in Nadia. A broker named Abhishek arranged for his stay there for a few weeks, where he washed dishes at an eatery. From there, he went to Bongaon and met an agent who promised to make fake papers with the help of a broker in Delhi before he travelled to Kolkata by train," said an officer.
In Delhi, a broker made a fake passport and Aadhaar card for him.
