  • Kolkata: Nine students from IIT-Kharagpur bagged jobs with pay packages exceeding Rs 1 crore on the first day of phase one of the 2024-25 placement process, which began on Sunday. The highest pay package received so far is Rs 2.1 crore. The students have also received 13 international offers so far.

The institute has received more than 800 offers so far, including the pre-placement ones. The jobs are primarily in the fields of software, analytics, finance, banking, consulting and core engineering. Some of the notable companies that participated on the first day of the placement were Apple, Capital One, DE Shaw, Glean, Google, Graviton, Microsoft, Quantbox, Databricks, Squarepoint Capital, Ebullient Securities and Samsara. Among them, a few companies like Capital One, Microsoft, Qualcomm, American Express, Flipkart, Meesho, and Mastercard have given a significantly large number of offers to the students.

"Many leading companies that visited the campus for internships in July 2024 have now registered for the placement process as well. Interviews are being conducted in hybrid mode, with a significant number of companies participating in person," said an IIT-Kharagpur press statement.

Career Development Centre (CDC) chairperson Rajib Maity said: "Collaborating with a diverse range of companies through targeted outreach has been essential in navigating the evolving market and maintaining excellence in the placement process."

He added that the CDC organised an academia-industry conclave this year to foster industry collaboration by bringing together academic units of IIT-Kharagpur (departments, centres, and schools) and recruiters. "It will facilitate knowledge exchange, identify emerging trends and strengthen our institute's position as a leading provider of engineering and technology talent," added Maity.

Director V K Tewari said: "Even when the current placement season is slow, IIT-Kharagpur stands tall with more than 750 offers on the first day of placement. The influx of companies in this competitive job market upholds the academic legacy of the first IIT in the world. This year's placements further emphasise the quality of our education, the relentless hard work of our students and the trust that leading organisations have in our institution. We look forward to a successful continuation of the placement process in the upcoming phases."
