Kolkata: A 18-year-old woman died after falling from a second-floor balcony of a five-storey building on Saturday. The incident occurred at Mitra Lane under Jorasanko police station. A relative of the woman alleged that she was pushed from the balcony by some youths. A case of unnatural death was registered as the police are conducting a probe into the incident.
The woman's aunt alleged that there used to be regular altercation between her and some of her neighbours and that a 20-year-old youth used to disturb her.
According to a relative of the woman, on Saturday afternoon, a dispute arose between the neighbours at the house. It is alleged that during the dispute, the youths verbally abused the young woman and beat her up. She was then allegedly pushed off the balcony. Critically injured, the woman was rushed to a nearby hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. The body was sent for post-mortem.
The family later filed a complaint at Jorasanko police station. Based on the complaint, the police started a probe and are questioning the neighbours. A senior police said, "questioning is on and we are waiting for the final post-mortem report."
