The Alipore Meteorological Department Monday reported a minimum temperature of 20 degrees Celsius in Kolkata, which is 3.4 degrees above normal. According to an official, “the maximum temperature in Kolkata may drop to 17 degrees” by the end of this week.
“Due to (recent cyclonic influence), the sky of south Bengal is cloudy even today,” said the meteorologist. “After two days, the temperature is expected to drop by two to three degrees. The temperature may drop by up to two degrees this week. The sky in Kolkata may remain partly cloudy for the next few days.”
The minimum temperature in Kolkata on Sunday was 19.1 degrees Celsius. “The temperature may remain the same on Monday,” the meteorologist added.
While winter has officially subsided, the region is still experiencing the effects of the recent cold snap. “Winter has subsided, bringing with it light to moderate morning fog,” the meteorologist explained. “Even though the day is getting longer, the sun is not visible like that. The sky is cloudy all day.”
However, “the situation will improve in the next 2-3 days”, the meteorologist assured.
Fog is very likely to occur in Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, North Dinajpur, and Maldah in North Bengal, as well as in West Burdwan, West Midnapore, Bankura, and Purulia in South Bengal.
The weather agency indicated that night temperatures in South Bengal districts are not expected to significantly change over the next five days. Additionally, no rainfall has been predicted for any part of the state. Dry weather is expected to prevail in all districts of South Bengal, including Kolkata, until December 6.
