  • Kolkata: The detective department of Kolkata Police arrested the scooter-rider who carried a shooter during the Nov 15 attempt on Kasba councillor Sushanta Ghosh.

Lakshman Sharma alias Chotu, who was arrested by the anti-rowdy squad after more than a fortnight, also played a role in carrying out reconnaissance of the spot multiple times before the attack. Lakshman was arrested from Chakeyaj village Bihar's Vaishali district around 3.15 am on Tuesday, taking the total arrests in the case to six.

"Lakshman Sharma was produced before a court in Bihar and taken on transit remand," said Joint CP (Crime & Traffic) Rupesh Kumar. Chotu was residing in the Tiljala area, just like two other accused arrested so far.

According to police sources, on the day of the incident, Chotu picked up shooter Yuvraj on his scooter near Bondel gate in the Park Circus area. After the incident, he parked the two-wheeler near Bondel Road and fled, taking a local train from Ballygunge station. A firearm was also recovered from Chotu, claimed sources.
