The event, a nostalgic journey through automotive history, captivated the city’s residents and visitors alike. Starting from the iconic Town Hall, a procession of vintage cars, each a masterpiece of engineering and design, snaked its way through the bustling roads of Kolkata. As the convoy cruised past landmarks like the AJC Bose Flyover and the Maa Flyover, it drew curious glances and excited cheers from onlookers.
“The EIMG (Eastern India Motoring Group) car rally proved to be a grand success,” said Shrivardhan Kanoria, founding president of EIMG and a vintage car collector and restorer.
Many onlookers to their phones to capture the moment, while others followed the convoy on bikes and cars.
Among the vehicles which participated were a rare 1934 SS1 Tourer, and a 1938 Rolls-Royce 25/30 limousine, both owned by Kanoria, a 1948 Bentley Mark 6 owned by Azam Monem, a 1938 Rolls-Royce 25/30 owned by Tamalika Naha, a 1913 Stoewer of Ananda Choudhury, a 1948 Plymouth Special Deluxe of SK Lahiri, a 1947 Chevrolet Fleetmaster owned by Saikat Dutta, and 1963 Standard Herald owned by Shubhajit Kumar.
At Club De Gold, a thanksgiving ceremony was performed to felicitate the car owners followed by a vintage motor quiz .
Sreerupa Sarkar, a participant, said, “My father had nine vintage cars and two bikes. In 2020 my father passed away. I feel very honorored that Mr Kanoria is doing a great job for vintage car enthusiasts. These are more of passion than possession.”
SK Lahiri, the owner of Plymouth which orginally belonged to famous singer Hemant Kumar, said, “In our community, my car is addressed as Nilu. It runs with all original parts.”
