Kolkata: Two residents of Chhattisgarh who arrived at Babughat on Thursday morning were allegedly "kidnapped" by two conmen and forced to roam around in a cab for some time before the accused let them go after forcing them to cough up cash.
According to police, the two victims arrived on a bus and had barely de-boarded when two accosted them, claiming the victims damaged their mobile phones during the commute. "The accused forced the two victims to one corner and demanded Rs 25,000 for settling the matter. The victims said they did not know the accused and that the latter had not even travelled with them," said an officer.
Amidst the argument, the victims claimed they were pushed inside a waiting taxi that then kept moving around Babughat and Prinsep Ghat. The victims claimed they were let off only after they agreed to pay up something in order to reach a compromise. The North Port police have registered a complaint.
